LAS VEGAS – The heat was on at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway not only in air temps but on the track as Lonnie Adamson gained his first win in a supermodified since running a full year in 2003. Adamson, of Salt Lake City, ran for the S&S Motorsports team, replacing recently retired Troy Regier.

Eight teams in all made the tow to Las Vegas, including Seattle’s Ray Stebbins, Dale Lamborn of Carson City and Pat Whittet of Boise. Other teams included Jim Birges of Fresno, Bryan Warf of Meridian, Idaho, AJ Russell of Clovis, Calif., and Jeff Collins of Three Rivers, Calif., who ran the No. 89 in his first-ever supermodified race.

“It has been incredible (racing with S&S Motorsports),” said Adamson after The Bullring finale. “The team is so accommodating and they pay attention to detail. This is such a great car, and I am happy to be here.”
Adamson started on the front row, outside for the main event, next to Whittet. He took the early lead and kept it until the checkered flag 35 laps later, but not without serious challenges from Birges and AJ Russell.

Upcoming Race Information

Posted by Admin | SMRA News | Thursday 17 June 2010 5:59 pm

Greetings, supermodified owners/drivers/crew and fans.
The races at The Bullring and Rocky Mountain Raceways are quickly approaching and we have information regarding hotel rooms for both venues.

Most importantly — I need a list of those who will be racing at each track for marketing/publicity and the announcers at each track.
Send me the driver’s name, hometown, years driving a supermodified, number of wins (and championships), crew names, owner name(s) AND YOUR SPONSORS. Let’s give them some airtime.
Please get this information back to me by Monday, June 21.

There are 15 rooms blocked at the Palace Station Casino. Phone number is (702) 367-2411. They will be available Wednesday afternoon and are blocked under the name “SMR” with the ID “PCISMR.” The reservation must be made by June 28.

For the race at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City, there are two host hotels that offer $59 a night room rates. You have your choice of Country Inns and Suites, or The Hampton Inn. Mention Rocky Mountain Raceways Racers Special when booking, and remember to book in advance.

SMRA supermodifieds to display, turn laps at All American this Saturday

Roseville, Calif. – The Supermodified Racing Association will participate in a special exhibition this Saturday at All American Speedway in Roseville, California.  The exhibition will be a part of All American’s Open Wheel Challenge, which includes USAC sprint cars headlining a number of other open-wheel divisions.

The exhibition will include a group of SMRA supermodifieds on display in the concession area before the supers hit the track for a couple rounds of practice. The display, which opens around 2 p.m., will gain the SMRA exposure to All American’s fan base and open-wheel fans from all over the state.

But the more important part of the day will be the track time the supers gain because of some strict enforcements at the Roseville facility.

All American director of competition Frank Vincent spoke about the event.

“The supers being (at Roseville) this Saturday serves a couple purposes.  First, it’s a great chance to promote the speed and excitement of supermodified racing to the fans.  This is a chance to try to relight the fire for the supers at this track.

“But we also have to meet some stringent sound requirements. We need to see if the supers clear the sound issues to gauge whether or not we could possibly have a supermodified race here in the future,” Vincent said.

So far, Jim Birges’ No. 32 is committed to be in attendance.  SMRA officials are awaiting word from other teams.

Birges says he’s excited to turn some fast laps around Roseville’s three-eighths-mile oval.

“It’ll be interesting to see what kind of lap times we run. I think there is potential for a really good supermodified show at Roseville. It’s more of a central location because the track is closer to the cars located further north, the Carson City group and the Idaho cars. If a race date could be established, I think it would draw a stronger car count.  Not to mention, (Roseville) is a beautiful facility and they always have a strong front gate,” Birges said.

All American is welcoming the SMRA with open arms. Officials are offering supermodified teams complimentary passes for themselves as well as friends and family.

The 410 supermodifieds raced regularly at All American in the late 1970s, although the class hasn’t competed at the Roseville track since.

The board voted on extending the time to turn in franchise agreements until May 15th , 2010. We need all teams that plan on joining to get there agreements signed and mailed. Only twenty franchise agreements qualify for the program. Un-Franchised teams will still compete , but will not be eligible for the $1000.00 guarantee. The Super 360′s are also eligible for this program and would be welcomed to join us .

The franchise agreement cost pays the entry fee for the sanctioned events and SMRA membership for the owner and the driver. Un-sanctioned teams will have to pre-pay entry fee’s and the owners and driver must be paid SMRA members. All crew members are encouraged to join as well, but its not mandatory.

To participate in the franchise agreement, download the franchise form HERE.

Please mail the form &  fee to the SMRA Treasurer:

Wayne Malmstrom, 1710 S. Curtis Rd, Boise, ID 83705

Please make checks or money orders payable to the “SMRA.”

A change is happening

by SMRA Officials

On Thursday 2-18 a meeting of car owners and SMRA officials was held. The topic of discussion was the new Franchise Agreement that has been used on the east coast with much success. This new agreement has been verbally accepted by eleven car owners. This new system will guaranty to track promoters a solid field of competitors for each event. It will also guaranty to the car owners financial incentive to attend each event. We need to secure more owners to accept this new program so we can field a consistent minimum twenty car field. We understand that this new program will take time to grow and prosper. But with the help of the owners, members and track promoters we feel that a full field of cars is close at hand
